Problems Attaching Files

If you are trying to attach a file and your My Computer icon is missing in eLearning, use these steps to restore the icon.

  1. Close all browser windows (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
  2. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel or on some PCs, Start > Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Java icon.
    • The Java Control Panel will open. At the bottom of the General tab there is a Temporary Internet Files area with a Settings button.
  4. Click the Settings button under the Temporary Internet Files area.
  5. Click the Delete Files button at the bottom of the window.
  6. Select both Applications and Applets and Trace and Log Files.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK on both the remaining windows and close the Control Panel window.
  9. Open your web browser and log in to eLearning, making sure to accept any Java applet messages that appear.
  10. Try uploading your file again.

The ability to attach a file to an email, discussion post or assignment in Blackboard Vista is heavily dependent on having Java installed. If the above steps do not resolve your issue or you don't have a Java icon in your Control Panel, please review the information on installing Java.
