It is strongly recommended that you perform the browser tune up before taking any online exams. Instructions for the Browser Tune-Up can be found from the eLearning home page at http://elearning.ipfw.edu.
- Navigate to the icon or link to the online exam and click it. Alternatively you can click the Assessments tool from the Course Tools menu, if available.

- On the start page of the assessment, details about the assessment such as the amount of time allowed for the completion of the assessment or how many attempts you will have to complete the assessment will be listed. Be sure to review these details to ensure that you understand the requirements of the assessment. If you have any questions about taking the assessment, be sure to click the Instructions and Troubleshooting button for additional assistance.

- Once you are ready to complete the assessment, click the Begin Assessment button. If your instructor has specified a limit on the time allowed to complete the assessment, your remaining time will begin decreasing immediately.

- If the assessment displays all the questions at once, be sure to click the Save Answer button after you answer each question. This will ensure that your answers will not be discarded if you leave the assessment before submitting it or if you run into technical problems. If the assessment shows only one question at a time, click the Save and View Next button after answering each question to continue.

- If you leave the assessment before you submit it, you can go back into the assessment and complete it only if you do so before the time limit on the assessment runs out. Note that once you begin an assessment, your remaining time will continue to decrease until it runs out or you submit the assessment, even if you are not currently working on it. If you must leave the assessment before completing it, or if you lose your connection to Vista for any reason, follow the instructions listed above to go back to your assessment and click the Continue Assessment button.
- Once you have completed the assessment, if your assessment displayed all the questions at once, click the Save All button. (If the assessment displayed each question individually, your answers were saved when you clicked the Save and View Next button).

- Click the Finish button to submit your assessment. Depending on the settings chosen by your instructor, you may receive your grade immediately or you may have to wait for your instructor to release your grade to you.
- If you experience any technical difficulties that affect your ability to complete an assessment, notify your instructor immediately, then contact IPFW's IT Services Help Desk. The Help Desk can help troubleshoot a variety of issues, but since the Vista service is administered by Purdue in West Lafayette and not by IPFW, IT Services is limited in its ability to quickly resolve complications with the Vista service. Immediately notifying your instructor helps him or her to address your problem quickly in the event that the Help Desk is unable to troubleshoot your particular issue.
